Dr. Kelly A. Metcalf Pate
Dr. Metcalf Pate received her DVM from the Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine and her Ph.D. in Platelet Biology from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.
Dr. Metcalf Pate's research interest lies in the role that platelets play in the innate immune response to infectious disease. Her lab is currently investigating how platelet binding to monocytes and endothelium during acute infection contributes to the pathogenesis of lentiviral infection, specifically the development of CNS disease and establishment of latent viral reservoirs, in the SIV/macaque model of HIV. She is dedicated to the field of platelet immunology and greatly enjoys working in academia as a researcher, veterinary clinician, and teacher for the next generation of veterinary researchers. In her free time, Dr. Metcalf Pate enjoys playing with her two standard poodles, Connor and Elliott. |
