Bess Carlson
Bess Carlson graduated from Ursinus College and joined the Metcalf Pate lab in 2017. Her work in the lab focused on the effect of positive reinforcement training on disease outcomes in macaques. She has extensive experience in positive reinforcement training with macaques, as well as with dogs and horses. She remained strongly involved in the macaque training program until 2021, when she transitioned to a remote role.
Alisa McNamara
Alisa McNamara worked in the Metcalf Pate lab as a behaviorist from 2018-2020. She was involved in the positive reinforcement training program for the macaques on study in the Retrovirus Lab.
Alisa is currently a DVM candidate at the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine in the class of 2024.

Sam Brill
Sam Brill worked in the Metcalf Pate lab as a technician from 2016 to 2018. He was involved in starting the positive reinforcement training program for the macaques on study in the Retrovirus Lab.
Sam is currently a DVM-PhD candidate at the Colorado State University College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences.

Kevin NajarroKevin Najarro is a graduate of the University of California at Santa Cruz, with a BS in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.
Kevin worked in the Metcalf Pate lab as a technician from 2014 to 2016. He is currently a senior professional research assistant at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. |
Elizabeth Engle
Elizabeth Engle was a research specialist involved in several projects in the Metcalf Pate lab, specifically including immunohistochemistry and immunocytochemistry.
She is now the laboratory manager of the Bloomberg~Kimmel Institute Tumor Microenvironment Technology Development Center.
